Bakara Market after the attackMogadishu, (insidesomalia.org) - At least nine people were killed and eleven others wounded on Thursday after mortars rain down in the Bakara Market, the main market in Somalia.

“Six civilians including men and women were wounded inside a depot where cereal crop is usually sold” said Hassan Ali, a local reporter who witnessed the scene during the attack.

Minutes after the first attack, a second explosion took place inside an other storehouse.

“It was the worst attack ever seen inside Bakara Market” Khadijo Moalim, a business woman at the Bakara, fleeing from her business.

Those injured were rushed to various hospitals and it is not known the motive of these mortar attacks targeted to the assiduous market and who was responsible.

More than five mortars slammed into the market , a witnesses confirm.

This attack comes nearly less than 24 hours after on Wednesday fighting intensified in parts of Mogadishu despite search operations yesterday by allied Somali and Ethiopian armed forces in the capital.

Heavy fighting erupted in parts of Mogadishu Wednesday evening after insurgents unleash attacks on Ethiopian army bases at the Industrial Street, Towfik, former Pasta Factory, Shirkole , Yaqshid and Suqa Xoolaha.

The exact figure of the casualties could not be confirmed but at least 20 mortars rammed into these locations.

The tension in Mogadishu is higher than before and more residents plan hunt for safe heaven, starting to flee from the capital where many of those who deserted it resumed to return home.
